Teams walk the walk in support of the Ronald McDonald House Charities

Businesses from across Perenti went head to head and toe to toe recently as they took part in the challenging IGO Up All Night walk in Perth in support of Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Barminco, DDH1, Ausdrill and BTP all fielded teams in this year’s walkathon raising close to $100,000 between them – an awesome effort improving on last year’s impressive total of $77,600.

The money raised from the event ensures thousands of regional Western Australian families with sick or injured children requiring medical treatment in Perth are provided with quality accommodation, meals, support, and education, while being away from home.

Barminco and DDH1 are proud to partner with Ronald McDonald Charities as event sponsors of the 42 kilometres walk, running pitstops with refreshments and providing support to more than 1200 walkers throughout the night.

There were impressive performances from across the Group. DDH1, Barminco and Ausdrill all finished in the top ten corporate fundraising teams with BTP placing a commendable sixteenth.

DDH1’s General Manager West Peter Crennan finished third in the overall individual fundraising stakes with an amazing $18,446 raised.

“It was a fantastic achievement by the DDH1 team to get behind their sponsorship of this year’s event.” Peter said. “We had eleven walkers representing DDH1 and raised a very respectable $36,443 which goes towards such a worthwhile cause.

“It was great to be involved in the event for the second time, and a big thank you to our DDH1 people and the sponsors who made it such a successful and memorable evening.”

Barminco had the most walkers in the event with a total of 24 people taking on the gruelling challenge. Contract Mining Vice President Australia, Mick Radi, said it was great to see Barminco, Ausdrill, BTP and DDH1 all come together for such a worthy cause.

“Walking the 42 kilometres is certainly tough, but it puts into perspective the bigger picture of life and the challenges other people face,” Mick said. “Well done to the Perenti group of companies who came together to support this great event and raised so much money for Ronald McDonald House.

It embodies our principle of ‘Walk in their shoes’ and the money raised will go a long way to supporting the families of sick kids and make their life that little bit easier.”

Not to be outdone, BTP General Manager Greg Lawson registered one of the fastest walking times for the event.

“This is the second time that I have been involved in the Up All Night walk. I walked with the Ausdrill team in 2022, and this year I was delighted to be part of Team BTP, who were participating in the event for the first time,” Greg said.

“Completing the walk in a quick time was a personal challenge. We were setting a pretty good pace, and at about the 10km mark I thought there was a real opportunity to get BTP to the top of the table.

“This meant powering through, so I didn’t get to enjoy all that was on offer at the DDH1 and Barminco pitstops unfortunately – although we definitely appreciated the Barminco icy poles at the half-way mark! “I am really proud of everyone that had a go because this walk is very challenging,” Greg added.

Last year’s top fundraiser Joe Keenan and his wife Simmone walked together raising more than $10,000 between them.

“My wife Simmone and I enjoyed walking together for the first time in this year’s Up All Night, especially knowing who would benefit from our small sacrifice. It was a short walk in our shoes compared to the journey of sick children and families who need Ronald McDonald House and its services,” Joe said.

Long time volunteer and walker in this year’s event, HSE Coordinator Kristina Lazarevic from Barminco said that despite being a humid night, Up All Night 2024 was an amazing experience.

“From the volunteers cheering us on, to the Pit Stops with the great tunes, snacks and electrolyte icy poles at #TeamBarminco! But the best part had to be stopping at Ronald McDonald House and seeing the families – some kids even stayed up past their bedtimes to cheer us on.

It helps remind you who you are walking for, and it gives you that burst of energy to keep going,” Kristina said. Well done to all the walkers and volunteers who looked after the DDH1 and Barminco pitstops on the night and everyone involved in the fundraising efforts.
