State-of-the-art academy fuels advancements for Barminco employees

In June, Barminco’s first Auto Electrical Trade Upgrades cohort commenced training at Komatsu’s state-of-the-art training academy in Perth.

The group consists of nine individuals pursuing a Certificate III in Automotive Electrical Technology over 18 months, with participants receiving recognition of prior learning (RPL) and credits applied to their training plans.

Barminco Superintendent Trade Training Steve Motion speaks highly of the partnership with Komatsu and the opportunities it will provide to Barminco employees.

“The Barminco-only class is a testament to our commitment to providing specialised and focused training opportunities for our employees.

“We greatly appreciate the support from Komatsu, as they understand the importance of upgrading our maintenance teams to keep pace with technology advancements in mining equipment,” Steve said.

The first cohort comprises current and new employees, including Ethan Milne, who has already completed a Light Vehicle apprenticeship at Sunrise Dam.

“The newly developed Komatsu Technical Training Academy in Welshpool is a fantastic state-of-the-art training facility designed to accommodate a range of courses associated with the mining industry,” said Ethan.

“I was lucky enough to be enrolled in the centre to complete a Trade Upgrade in their Automotive Electrical trade studies with Barminco. With the assistance of Steve Motion, I secured a highly sought-after position in one of their classes to undertake my training.”

Ethan also spoke highly of the Komatsu training academy’s facilities.

“The facilities have spacious classrooms and specialised technical laboratories that cater for the diverse needs of the mining sector and the skills and knowledge this fast-evolving workforce requires. Importantly, the Komatsu Technical Training Academy has knowledgeable trainers, assessors, and friendly staff.

“I am excited to continue my studies with Komatsu and look forward to improving my knowledge and skills in their learning environment to support my career at Barminco,” he said.
