IMARC puts Perenti electrification offering on the map
Perenti has used the International Mining and Resources Conference in Sydney as the backdrop to
outline our decarbonisation and electrification capabilities to the mining industry. The company exhibited at the conference for the first time since 2019 and also took part in a range of
presentations during the three day event.
Mark Norwell, Perenti Managing Director & CEO, gave a keynote address in the plenary about how decarbonisation required mining to be reimagined, while Sarah Coleman, President idoba, spoke
about digital technologies that support decarbonisation.
Darren Kwok, Head of Mining Electrification and Technology joined Chris Carr, IGO’s Head of Technical Services and Mehrzad Ashnagaran, ABB’s Global Product Line Manager, in a panel discussion on the current and ground breaking full electrification study being undertaken by Perenti and ABB at IGO’s Cosmos Nickel Project in WA. Paul Linabury, Manager Electrification, also joined Nic Beutler, Global Product Manager, Power System & Charging Solutions, ABB and a range of other SMEs to discuss overcoming electrification roadblocks – what challenges still exist, and where to next?
To support Perenti’s attendance at IMARC a bespoke conference booth was built that captured key sustainability and electrification messages and showcased our brands. The booth provided functional and technical capability display areas so our delegates could interact with attendees. Advertising and communication programs were implemented prior to the conference to raise awareness of Perenti’s decarbonisation and electrification capability and partnerships, as well as drive visitors to the Perenti booth. Accelerating decarbonisation is one of Perenti’s five sustainability priorities and Raj Ratneser, the Group Executive Sponsor for decarbonisation, along with Peter Bryant, CFO, said the conference had been a huge success.
“The stand was well designed, had clear messaging that aligned with our business priorities and was busy for all three days of the conference, during which time we had several high profile visitors including the Federal Resources Minister Madeleine King,” Raj said.
“We were well represented on numerous panels by our electrification experts and had excellent and thought-provoking presentations from both Mark and Sarah.
“The feedback has been extremely positive, and the conference provided an excellent platform to land our decarbonisation, electrification, and digitalisation messaging. More importantly, we generated several leads from our attendance at IMARC and positioned Perenti as a technology enabled partner of choice when it comes to electrifying underground mines.
“A big thank you to everyone involved in the conference both in organising the significant logistics and those attending to represent Perenti or our businesses. Electrification is a critical part of our future and the future of mining, and we are already planning our next conference for 2024 – stay tuned.”
IMARC, REIMAGINING MINING –
KEY TAKEOUTS:
Mark Norwell
The IMARC conference reinforced that the electrification of mines is critical in helping us to meet one of the greatest challenges in our industry. Embracing electrification will take collective leadership and bold action. It requires a diverse and expanded set of capabilities with technology integral to facilitate the shift in the way we operate and to augment our decision making. People are critical in delivering this change and to support them, we must create a safe and respectful environment and adopt a culture of learning. Finally, no one has the whole solution. Collaboration is critical given the scale and urgency of the challenge and we must be Smarter together as we look to reimagine mining and enable tomorrow.
Sarah Coleman
IMARC was a wonderful showcase of the power of each part of Perenti coming together to solve big industry problems. Having attended iMARC many times, the significant shift in messaging to sustainability, electrification and collaboration was evident, with Perenti a significant contributor to this. The Perenti booth was buzzing the whole three days (the organiser even commented on our booth being one of the busiest at the event) and the engagement we had from clients and vendors was very positive. Having Mark, Paul, Darren and myself up on stage as well, really helped demonstrate we are not only talking about the importance of sustainability, electrification and collaboration, we are doing it.
Darren Kwok
Electrification, decarbonisation and energy transition was a key theme of IMARC and it was a wonderful to see Perenti not only represented well by the team, but to get such positive feedback from clients, organisers and the broader industry. We were inundated with attendees wishing to discuss opportunities to collaborate and I look forward to exploring these in more detail in the near future.
Paul Linabury
IMARC was a great opportunity to showcase all of the industry leading work that is being completed by Perenti in the decarbonisation and electrification space. By partnering and collaborating with other leaders like ABB we will be able to successfully transition the mining industry to an electrified future.
